How to Choose the Perfect Art Piece
For some choosing a fine piece of art is second nature, they have their idea of a good piece of artwork, know how it coordinates with their room and its simple. But let’s face it, some of us just do not have that artistic eye for colors and details. With that said, I have composed just a few tips to help our less than artistic audience.
Before choosing any specific piece of art, look at as much art as you can. Check out local art festivals around your area, go to art museums, and observe the art hanging in common places you visit such as schools, hotels, and banks. The Internet is another great way to find a large variety of fine art available worldwide. One advantage of using the Internet is that you can search for the specific kind of art you are interested in, whether it's photography, impressionism, bronze sculpture, or abstract painting.
Choose what you prefer! If you like abstract, Look for abstract artwork!
Only search for art that fits you. That screams this is you!
Determine your color palette.
In order to determine your color palette you will need to consider the theme and colors of the room you are looking to place a piece of art in. Consider every color in the area. Are your drapes purple? What color are your walls? Carpet? What color is your couch? All of this will come into the equation when trying to find the absolute perfect art piece for the room.
Ever heard the saying “less is more”?
Find a color in your room that is not the main color. If your carpet has flecks of sea green, find a piece of art with this color. It does wonders to tie the room together! You want to select colors that mesh with the theme and colors of your room. If your home has an antique theme, you’re going to want to look for antique frames and colors.
Another tip to consider is the size of the piece you are looking for. Consider the space you have to work with. Art that is too large will overwhelm and art that is too small will look much smaller when on a big wall space. The bolder and more eye popping the art, the more room it needs to radiate. Measure the space you want to hang the art and leave enough wall space that the painting will not look crowded.
Also hang correctly! Paintings should be hung so that the center of the painting is at eye level to the viewer. Avoid hanging above frames, such as your door frame, or windows.
Make the painting the center of attraction in the room of your house by playing down the other decorative attempts, such as drapes, carpet or flooring, wall color, and your furniture. A room crowded with other colors, art, and other objects will take the attention away from the art piece you want to display.
Lastly, remember to experiment to learn what pleases you and what doesn't. Selecting and displaying art is an art in itself. You will be happier to have spent the time to find what represents you, and find more satisfaction in the art and in your home. The amazing thing about art is that there really is no wrong with art as long as you love it! When you love a piece, this piece radiates in your home, it is you, and will display beautifully and represent you and your home amazingly.
